The Future is with our Children

Welcome to South Coast United SC, a club established in 1984 by a small group of hard working and generous families, many of whom are still with the club today. South Coast United’s idea of starting a junior arm originated with some light hearted conversations a few years ago which quickly developed into some more serious discussions of “why not”, why not run a junior set-up the same as a senior club operates.

It is with these discussions in 2013, the move was made, applications were sent, and the Football South Coast Junior Council was approached. It was with the councils help that we were allowed to present our idea to the other member clubs. After some deliberation and an accepting vote’s from the member clubs, which we sincerely thank to this day, we are here now and hopefully for many years to come.

Welcome to South Coast United Junior Soccer Club

A club run by Players for Players, where your family is our family! At South Coast United we believe our junior football will offer something different and something special to the Illawarra footballing region and its participating families.

  1. A direct pathway to a senior program without the need to look for another
    club after U16’s
  2. A “One Club Committee”
  3. A Club run by former Players for Players
  4. A Pathway to the NSW NPL with “Sister Club” Sydney United 58 FC
  5. The genuine excitement and commitment of a committee dedicated to helping
players progress to higher levels within our game.

Our aim is to provide the children of today with a platform to progress their potential, learn new skills and techniques in a fun, inclusive and safe team, family and community focused environment, all under the “ONE CLUB” banner. Along with this we also aim to develop players’ abilities off the pitch, by introducing them to experiences that will shape their development into young adults and give them life skills that they will use for years to come.

So as you can see the overall aim of the South Coast United junior football program is to provide professional, structured and disciplined football training to younger generations and show them just how special the game of football really is.

DEVELOPMENT ACHIEVEMENTS:

South Coast United SC has a fine tradition of developing players, whilst many football identities have been associated the Club, including Croatian and “Hajduk Split” legend, Ante Zanetic, Welsh international, Neil Williams & Wollongong Wolves legend David Skeen.

Other Players associated with Club include

  • Illawarra Premier League record goal scorer Joe Coelho
  • Illawarra Players of the Year Claude Cellini & Denis Jurjevic
  • Zvonko Usljebrka playing for South Coast United in his younger years then moving on to Sydney United.
  • Greg Valic, Wollongong wolves and still playing for the club
  • AIS graduate, Olyroo and NSL Champion, Michael Santalab
  • Western Sydney Wanderers Favourite, Brendon Santalab played for us in 2004
  • Current Socceroos skipper Mile Jedinak who wore the SCU strip in 2000

In recent years we have seen a whole lot of youngsters go through our ranks and move up leagues, well 5 players to the NPL in the last 2 years to be precise, an achievement that NOT ONE other Illawarra club can boast.

Junior Goals

In response to our introduction into the Illawarra junior fold, we decided that we needed someone to overlook our juniors, a “Technical director” if you wish to call it that. It was actually quite an easy decision on the clubs behalf but we thought it may have been a little harder convincing the man in our thoughts.

That man is Michael Santalab.

When Michael was approached with our idea, he literally jumped at it, as it was all about kids and their life development. With Michael’s footballing career spanning over 30 years as a player including achievement’s that most could only dream about, including a dream first grade start at the age of 16 for South Coast United then moving onto the Australian Institute of sport, followed by a lengthy stint in the NSL (Today’s A-League) and Quite a few Olyroo appearances also including a few seasons around the Asian continent, he gladly jumped up and said “I’m in”.

As you can now see the goal and focus of our club is for our players’ futures, a vision that can easily be seen and felt when speaking to any of our club members.

With this said, we all know that the first year or so will be a bumpy ride as we are all a little new with this, but our determination and will to achieve these goals along with your feedback will no doubt set us all up for a great future together.
