SC United vs W’gong United

Hello all and welcome to 2015 or season 31 to us.

First of all I’d like to welcome our guests today, Wollongong United and before I go on any further, on behalf of our club SC United and the Croatian community of Wollongong as a collective, I would like to thank Peter Vrtkovski and his Club along with his community for their help and also use of their complex at last year’s 40th Australian Croatian Soccer tournament. Thank you from all of us.

With the season already 2 games in and a lot of us suffering severely from a tournament hangover, we got off to a lazy start this year and myself included had struggled to find time to put together a write up for last week’s newsletter….. Sorry… but I’ll make up for it.

Anyway, let’s move on. I would like to thank all of our sponsors first as without you the cost associated with running a club in the Illawarra would not be possible. I won’t go through you individually but you can see there adds in this booklet, so if you bump into any of them, say g’day and thank you as these people put there hard earned money into the club we ALL love.

Next up I would like to welcome all of our past and present players and an especially warm welcome to the new group in our club, Dave Bratjescak and his under 18s side. This team holds a bit of a special spot in my heart as I do remember when my Dad brought me up here to play for the first time and the excitement along with nerves I felt going to play senior soccer for the first time. Good Luck boys and I hope this is the start of a long footballing career for you all.

To our fans, as you are aware our first game had a lot of mixed emotions during the 90 minutes and as the great man Jonny Warren once said “90 minutes 90 emotions” but we managed to scrape back a draw in the end. Game 2 was a little better with a 2-1 win over Wollongong Olympic……

Moving on, at the end of the day, all this effort put in by the board the coaches and of course our players is all for you, as without you it simply is not worth doing, the highs the lows the good times and the not so good we all love or club the same. To finish off I’d like to share a conversation I had the other week. Somebody asked me if I was going to watch the A-league, my reply was simply… what for my Real Madrid is playing at Kembla Grange…

Welcome to you ALL. Cheers Brian.
